Interning at Spark

I got introduced to Spark through one of my college mates. One thing led to another and I got an internship offer. Spark is the largest telecom operator of NZ.  During my first few days I noticed too many Indians at Spark, specially in my team. Oh sorry, it is called chapter here. Spark follows the Agile way of working which essentially aims to replace traditional hierarchical team structure and control to cross functional and self-managing teams. Agile at Spark comprises of “Squads”, “Tribes” and “Chapters”. A squad is a cross-functional group of specialists who work together every day. They have all necessary skills, tools and authority to independently develop a usable product. Tribe is a group of related Squads, formed around a given product/business goal and responsible for the outcomes of a business segment or functional area. Second Sem Results

The second sem got over.  I am not sure if it was a relief. This semester was half the load of the previous one but I had taken up many work projects so was thankfully super busy and had little time to reminiscent. I felt perpetually in motion…either tapping fingers on keyboard or palming my brows, planning schedules or sifting through papers on the desk or files on the laptop.  It was easy to pretend everything is alright!  So the good news is that I got my first A plus. Sticking to As helps validate many things that went into  doing this course - plans, people... But that’s it. There are so many things I still don’t know. The more I read, the more ignorant I feel. About the course and otherwise. And the answers are not easy to come by. So once again, it’s a process of self-discovery. But wasn’t it such always?
